JOB DESCRIPTION

 JOB TITLE: Executive Director of College Park Main Street, Inc., a Florida not-for-profit corporation

HOURS: Full-time managerial position

COMPENSATION: Base salary of $50,000

REPORTS TO:  CPMS President

COLLEGE PARK MAIN STREET’S MISSION STATEMENT

College Park Main Street will lead, champion, and inspire the development of College Park into a thriving community of residences, workplaces, businesses, and retailers actively engaged in creating a rich quality of life for all who work, play, and live here.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the President, the Executive Director is responsible for all facets of CPMS’s operations, including, but not limited to, implementation of the strategy as set by the Board of Directors. Within this broad scope of responsibility, the Executive Director is also expected to understand all aspects of CPMS’s operations and finances, and ensure CPMS’s compliance with its articles of incorporation, Board-adopted policies, agreements with the City of Orlando, sponsors and others, and all other obligations. The Executive Director serves as a CPMS liaison to government entities and other community organizations and leads CPMS’s drive for continuous improvement in furtherance of its mission.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • High degree of credibility, independence, integrity, discretion and trustworthiness
  • Familiarity and involvement with the Main Street approach
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to articulate information in understandable terms, and sound sales skills
  • Sound business judgment
  • Experience within a non-profit, community-based organization
  • Effective interpersonal skills required to interact with directors, members, sponsors, government officials and employees, volunteers, and prospective members
  • Good organizational and planning skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to operate successfully in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment
  • Computer literacy and word processing skills, such as Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Constant Contact and social media platforms

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a non-profit organization
  • Sales and fundraising experience

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operations
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of CPMS
  • Proactively identify ways to improve and streamline CPMS operations
  • Coordinate vendor relationships (i.e., event partners, City of Orlando staff, etc.)
  • Supervise, train, and manage CPMS staff and interns
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the CPMS President and/or Executive Committee to review current and anticipated goals and objectives
  • Participate in educational and training programs
  • Actively support and coordinate CPMS fundraising efforts
  • Manage CPMS’s website and proactively anticipate needed changes

 

  • Finances
  • Understand CPMS’s daily financial position
  • Anticipate and proactively manage cash needs
  • Ensure that tax reports are properly prepared and timely filed
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial procedures
  • Support Board Treasurer and CPMS bookkeeper/CPA to manage expenses, maintain financial records, and submit timely tax reports
  • Review and understand all financial and tax-related CPMS submissions

 

  • Members
  • Develop and implement a plan to recruit new members and retain existing members
  • Maintain membership records
  • Regularly visit business members and prospective business members in accordance with a written membership development plan

 

  • Committees
  • Attend committee meetings and maintain a record of committee minutes
  • Assist committees with plans and projects
  • Assist committee chairs in preparing work plans and budgets

 

  • Volunteers
  • Develop and implement a plan to recruit volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteers for projects, committees, and events

 

  • Board of Directors and Executive Committee
  • Maintain Board and Executive Committee records (both hard and soft copies)
  • Keep the Board and Executive Committee fully informed as to CPMS operations
  • Ensure compliance with the articles of incorporation, Board-adopted policies, agreements with the City of Orlando, sponsors and others, and all other obligations
  • Attend and participate in Board and Executive Committee meetings
  • Present reports at meetings as needed or requested
  • Proactively anticipate issues and present updates of CPMS activities as appropriate

 

  • Government
  • Liaise with the Orlando Main Street Administrator
  • Prepare CPMS reports for, and respond to inquiries from, the City of Orlando
  • Develop effective working relationships with key personnel at the City of Orlando, Orange County Commission, and state and federal legislative delegations
  • Attend and actively participate in the National and Florida Main Street conferences

 

  • Organizations
  • Strengthen relationships with other local organizations, including CPNA
  • Drive CPMS / CPNA Joint Task Force, developing and pushing forward an agenda approved by Board
  • Collaborate with other Orlando Main Street organizations to exchange ideas, learn best practices, and develop relationships
